Ashfords has been involved with equity release schemes since 1997, and it is this wealth of experience that causes other law firms in the area to recommend their equity release clients to us.

We work very closely with your specialist independent financial adviser and are delighted to be associated with Sue Martin of West Country Retirements who are widely recognised and highly regarded in this area.

It is important to us that you feel confident and pleased with our equity release service and so are happy to offer a fixed fee structure for all such applications.

Peter Barton specialises in advising clients on Equity Release Schemes (ERS) and is a panel solicitor for a number of the major ERS providers. Peter was asked by Retirement Plus to lecture to advisers on the legal procedure involved in dealing with ERS and the legal implications.

In partnership with Age Concern, Peter runs a free monthly legal surgery advising on equity release.

Outside of work, Peter is heavily involved in the local community, being Chairman of Age Concern Tiverton & District, a trustee of the Tiverton Almshouse Trust, and Clerk to the Governors of Uplowman Primary School. In his free time Peter also enjoys playing tennis, skiing and swimming.

Julia joined Ashfords in 2003, bringing a wealth of conveyancing secretarial experience, and now specialises in advising clients on their lifetime mortgage applications. She is familiar with all of the schemes on the market. She provides a strong support role to Peter by overseeing the smooth running of the department, which includes preparing mortgage offer letters and speaking to clients about the progress of their case.

Her interests outside the office are many and varied. She is currently learning to sail and is the proud owner of a sailing dinghy, which she has named "Destiny".

Emily completed her law degree at Exeter University in 2003 and joined Ashfords in 2005. She is qualified as an Assistant Solicitor in September 2007. She assists Peter in advising on ERS as well as working in a variety of other private client areas including Wills and conveyancing.

In her spare time, Emily enjoys yoga, running and skiing as well as playing the piano and violin.
